Thinking Inside, Outside or in a New Box

Working within a framework and structured environment builds organizational stability and in-depth experience. To grow and innovate, thinking outside the box is recommended. Can growth and innovation only happen trampling over stability and experience? As organizations, can we get our people to contribute towards growth and innovation while staying within their current boxes? Or, do we need new, different box?
