Scott Joslyn is Senior Vice President and CIO for MemorialCare Health System, a multi-hospital system in Southern California with 1,300 inpatient beds, nearly 10,000 employees and 3,250 physicians. His 200-member team is responsible for information technology, networking and telecommunications. Under his leadership, MemorialCare received the Most Wired award from Hospitals and Health Networks eight consecutive years. ComputerWorld twice named MemorialCare one of the top 100 places to work in IT. Joslyn and the MemorialCare executive have been named Top Leadership Team in the Nation by HealthLeaders magazine. Scott is a board member of Long Beach Network for Health, one of nine NHIN grant recipients for development of a RHIO. He has co-chaired California Hospital Association’s Health Information Technology Committee and CalRHIO’s CIO Advisory Committee, and is a past member of Health-e-LA, a coalition fostering development of an infrastructure for multi-organizational health information exchange in the County of Los Angeles. In 1999, Scott co-founded and remains chair of CHIEF, a southern California healthcare CIO information-sharing group. Under his leadership, CHIEF sponsored regional healthcare IT conferences focusing on technology-enabled care delivery. He is also a member of the editorial advisory board of Advance for Health Information Executives, and an active member of both HIMSS and CHIME. Scott is an advisor to HIMSS Analytics which collects and analyzes healthcare data relating to IT processes and environments, products, IS department composition, costs and management metrics, healthcare trends and purchasing decisions. HIMSS Analytics devised an EMR Adoption Model to track EMR progress at hospitals and health systems. The EMRAM scores hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics Database on their progress in completing the 8 stages to creating a paperless patient record environment. Scott serves as a reviewer for HIMSS Analytics and assesses an organization's achievement in reaching Stage 7 – the pinnacle of an environment where paper charts are no longer used to deliver patient care. Scott presents frequently at conferences on healthcare IT. He has authored numerous articles on topics including electronic medical records, computerized physician order entry, health information exchange, and outsourcing. Scott and his CEO appeared on the cover of Most Wired Magazine as MemorialCare embarked on its system-wide rollout of an electronic medical record.
