Leadership - IT fandom…what does it take?

Posted by CIO Talk Radio onin Leadership/Management

Fans are passionate, even obsessive about someone or something…  Some of us are fans of the latest bleeding edge technology.  A salesman, a CEO, an entrepreneur, can all be fans of their business or product.  But are such passions only in the eye of the beholders?

The way many business and IT people each see their side of it, IT and business are in locked in a symbiotic relationship.  They co-exist, but neither sees the other as being mutually beneficial to its own existence.  Business and sales people may see themselves existing at the mercy of IT, while IT people may see themselves starved for the financial resources or approvals they need to be productive by business and sales.

But what if each saw the other as being vital to its own survival? A perfect complement to what the other lacks? What if business saw IT as being the cement that holds the bricks of business together, to create a solid, profitable structure?  What do you think?  Tomorrow, listen in to hear a discussion about Making the rest of the business a “fan” of IT!
