Dan Ariely is the Alfred P. Sloan Professor of Behavioral Economics at MIT, where he holds a joint appointment between MIT's Program in Media Arts and Sciences and the Sloan School of Management. He is also a visiting scholar at the Boston Federal Reserve Bank and a fellow at the Institute for Advance Study at Princeton. At MIT, Dan is the principal investigator of the Media Lab's eRationality group, a co-director of the Lab's Simplicity consortium, and the founder of the Center for Advanced Hindsight. He and his students are conducting experiments that illuminate day-to-day irrationality in decision-making and creating software solutions to overcome persistent human shortcomings. As a behavioral economist, Dan studies how people actually act in the marketplace, as opposed to how they should or would perform if they were completely rational. Elizabeth Hackenson is the Chief Information Officer for Alcatel-Lucent and was named to this position at the time of the merger between Alcatel and Lucent Technologies. She previously had been CIO for Lucent. Before joining Lucent in April of 2006, she held the position of Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer for MCI. During her five years at MCI, Ms. Hackenson held several senior positions in the company's IT and supply chain organizations, leading various transformation projects, including the development of a centralized shared service model and a state-of-the-art customer self-service portal infrastructure. Prior to MCI, she worked for UUNET for three years, where she managed the development of Internet products and implemented web-based tools for the company's supply chain, resulting in additional revenue and a more cost-effective customer service process. Earlier in her career she worked for Concert Communication, where she was responsible for leading the development and deployment of the company's flagship voice product. She also has held IT management positions at EDS, Computech, TRW and Grumman & Sperry. In 2005, Computer World named her one of its top 100 premier IT leaders. The Washington Post named her one of the top 200 female executives in 2004 and Information Week ranked the department she lead as one of the top 100 for IT leadership.
