Dr. Steven Burrell’s has more than 35 years of higher education technology leadership experience holding positions at Colorado State University, Hutchinson Community College (Kansas), Plymouth State University (New Hampshire), Saint Leo University (Florida), Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA, and is currently the Vice President and Chief Information officer at Northern Arizona University. He has directly served 12 presidents over the past 30 years while holding the top IT leadership role at five different institutions.
Dr. Burrell is a lifelong learner earning a bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree from Sterling College (KS), a Masters of Education in Technology Administration degree from Plymouth State University (NH), an Education Specialist Degree in Leadership from Georgia Southern University, and a Doctor of Education of Higher Education Leadership from Georgia Southern University. He is also a graduate of the Harvard University College of Education Institute for Educational Management. In his career, Dr. Burrell has lead a wide variety of successful projects and services including world-wide educational initiatives, national competitive grants to improve integrated planning and advising for student success, statewide multi-institution shared services, to innovative projects to advance non-sponsored research capabilities for undergraduate education. Dr. Burrell’s passion for technology and higher learning has created opportunities for fostering future generations of college graduates. Students under Dr. Burrell’s mentorship have produced Emmy award-winning programming from athletic shows to fine arts programming as well as creating new cutting-edge technology business enterprises. He is passionate about creating future leaders, creating leadership development programs to foster the next generation of CIOs and education leaders.
Dr. Burrell is also active in his profession serving on state-wide technology boards and in advisory roles for private business and education organizations. He is also active in his community, having served as President of the Rotary International club, hospice organizations, and boards of organizations acting on behalf of animal rights and rescue. He is currently serving as the chairman of the Board for Sun Corridor Networks and on the board of the Center for Higher Education Chief Information Officer Studies (CHECS.org).
