Mr. Pitroda is the Chairman and CEO of World-Tel Limited, an International Telecom Union initiative to build telecommunications infrastructure in emerging markets. He is also the Chairman and Founder of several high-technology startup companies in the US, Europe, and India.
In 2000, Mr. Pitroda was invited by Secretary General of the United Nations to join a special advisory committee, on Information and Communications Technology, to address the global Digital Divide. In 1987, Mr. Pitroda was the advisor to Prime Minister of India, with the rank of a Minister, on National Technology Missions related to Drinking Water, Literacy, Immunization, Oil Seeds, Milk, and Telecom.
He was the first founding Chairman of the Telecom Commission in India, responsible for National and International Telecom operations, policies and administrations, with over 500, 000 employees. Mr. Pitroda holds over 50 world-wide patents. He has lectured extensively on Telecom, Technology, and Development, in the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa and has been featured in numerous newspapers, magazines, radio, and television programs world over.
