Merrick Furst is professor and associate dean of the College of Computing at Georgia Tech and is co-author of a recent white paper discussing the need for colleges to look into new approaches for helping US computer science graduates and undergraduates compete in the increasingly competitive global business environment. Dr. Furst's innovative ideas for the Georgia Tech Computing program have also been cited by well known author, Thomas L. Friedman, in his book, "The World is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-first Century." Merrick recently co-founded the anti-botnet startup, Damballa, Inc.. Prior to Georgia Tech he was a professor at UC Berkeley, and president of the International Computer Science Institute at Berkeley. Earlier he was professor and associate dean in the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon.
