Mark Wyatt serves as vice president of grid modernization for Duke Energy. He is lead executive for the company’s grid modernization function, which will deliver enhanced operational efficiencies for the company’s transmission and distribution system, as well as provide a platform for growing the company’s revenue through leveraging grid modernization technology to provide value-added products and services to the company’s retail customer base.

Prior to the Duke Energy/Progress Energy merger in July 2012, he served as vice president of retail customer products and services. In this role, he was responsible for providing services to approximately 4 million customers in North Carolina, South Carolina, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky. He had responsibility for call center operations, revenue billing and receivables, marketing, energy efficiency, relationships with large business customers, and grid modernization.

Wyatt started with Duke Power in 1980 in the information management department. He moved to the distribution department several years later, where he was responsible for the deployment of common business processes and supporting technology that enhanced the effectiveness of engineering, construction and operations functions within the department. Following this assignment, he experienced a series of promotions within the company through assignments in the retail customer services, transmission, distribution, and information technology areas.

In the mid-1990s, he assumed a senior management role within the company’s unregulated business unit, where he was responsible for both domestic and international information technology operations. Wyatt has been a member of several advisory boards throughout his career, including the Computer Science Strategic Advisory Board at North Carolina State University, UNC Charlotte’s College of Informatics Strategic Advisory Board, the North Carolina Technology Association and the Customer Services Week board of directors.
