PNNL is a Department of Energy Office of Science national laboratory that solves complex problems in energy, national security and the environment, and advances scientific frontiers in the chemical, biological, materials, environmental and computational sciences. PNNL employs 4,200 staff, has a $750 million annual budget, and has been managed by Ohio-based Battelle since the lab's inception in 1965. Jerry is responsible for IT Infrastructure involved in the information intensive business of scientific research and technology development, including a high performance network supporting one of the world's most powerful supercomputers, unique information discovery and retrieval tools, and trusted capabilities for collaborating with researchers world-wide. Jerry also represents PNNL interests concerning information technology to DOE and other federal and state agencies, and develops strategic relationships with other Battelle and DOE laboratories, universities, business partners, and suppliers. Jerry chairs the DOE National Laboratories CIO Council and the Virtual Possibilities Network (VPnet) Board of Directors, and represents PNNL in the Northwest Academic Computing Consortium.
