Christopher Porter is Fannie Mae’s Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer, reporting to the Senior Vice President and Head of Operations and Technology. In this role, Porter helps to communicate the importance of information security across the enterprise and to develop Fannie Mae’s defense and response capabilities. He is responsible for all aspects of cyber security at Fannie Mae – including emerging threats/risk mitigation, policy development, and protection of the firm’s data and systems assets. Before assuming his current position in July 2016, Porter was Director and Deputy Chief Information Security Officer. Porter has more than 15 years of experience in the information technology (IT) and security industries. His background includes working as an economist, network and system administrator, information security consultant, and researcher. Before joining Fannie Mae in 2015, Porter worked at Verizon, most recently as its Managing Principal – Threat Intelligence. While at Verizon, he was a lead analyst and author of the company’s Data Breach Investigations Report series. He was also the co-creator of the VERIS (Vocabulary for Event Recording and Incident Sharing) Framework, which provides organizations a standard way of collecting and reporting security incident metrics. Porter is a member of the master of science in management of IT advisory board at the University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce and a member of the board of directors at the FAIR Institute. Porter has a bachelor’s degree in economics and psychology and a master of science degree in management of IT from the University of Virginia.
