Cavan Capps has worked for the last thirty years specializing in computer architecture for analytics. In the private sector, he worked in econometric forecasting before focusing systems development and architecture for the Army Research Institute, Mathematica, the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the U.S. Bureau of the Census. At BLS, Mr. Capps lead the effort to downsize statistical processing systems from mainframes to distributed networks. Before tasked to lead the U.S. Census’s Bureau effort on big data, Mr. Capps designed and lead the development of the DataWeb to access and provide descriptive analytics from distributed data collections through a single set of interfaces. The system is now providing the API access to the collections of data the Census Bureau. Currently Mr. Capps is leading the effort to implement cost effective big data processing at the U.S. Census Bureau.
