As CIO of Republic Services, Bill Halnon is responsible for all systems, networks, data centers, information operations and telephony services of this Fortune 300 environmental services company. Republic Services is the second largest waste management company in the U.S., with 30,000 employees serving over 800 hauling, landfill, recycling and transfer operations across 40 states and Puerto Rico.
In 2009 & 2010, Bill led the successful IT integration of Republic Services and Allied Waste. This 2-year program involved over 350 man-years of effort, with 190,000 hours of end user training conducted. The end result was the swift migration of the newly formed company to a single common set of systems, networks and core infrastructure that served as a catalyst for the effective merging together of both companies.
Mr. Halnon has 30 years of IT industry experience and has been with Republic Services since 2007. Prior to joining Republic, Bill served in the CIO role for both Spherion and Alliance One International. Before becoming a Chief Information Officer, he held various IT management and technical roles for a major railroad, airline and consulting company.
Bill has been recognized as the 2010 IT Practitioner of the Year by the Arizona Chapter of SIM, and Republic Services’ 2011 Impact Player of the Year. Bill holds a BS in Biology from Florida State University and a BBA in Accounting from the University Center of Tulsa. He serves on several IT advisory councils, and resides in Scottsdale, Arizona.
